Eta Initiation Day

Recruitment is a very special position to take on because the future of the organization is quite literally in your hands. After having such an amazing and successful experience with our last class (the Zetas), I would be lying if I said we weren’t nervous going into our second semester. We definitely had some standards to uphold. I’m a big fan of our Zeta class. This is not a secret. (For those who do not remember last semester’s superlatives, I was awarded most likely to fan girl/cry over one of the Zetas.) But from day one with our new class, we knew that the Etas were 100% dedicated to proving themselves as members of Zeta Phi Eta as well as genuine and talented professionals.

Going into our second Initiation Day as the HBICs, Jordan and I were notably less anxious. In an improvement from last semester, neither of us (me) had a panic attack/breakdown in a public place (Shop Rite). We felt prepared. Yet, it was easily still one of the most stressful (and wonderful) days of our lives.

Initiation is an incredibly rewarding experience because it is the culmination of the entire recruitment process. Even if I weren’t responsible for recruitment, it would be my absolute favorite day because it brings our entire organization together to celebrate our growing family.

By the end of the long day, I was understandably desperate for the dinner supplied by Noodles & Company. While I will forever feel nostalgic about off-campus initiation parties, I am honestly thankful for any occasion that brings Zeta together socially, no matter the location.

With a full class load and demanding jobs/internships, Jordan and I definitely found ourselves feeling overwhelmed at times throughout the semester but I, for one, am beyond grateful to have held this position for a second time. Getting to know the Eta class and having the opportunity to see them through their process and ultimately initiate them into the Beta Eta chapter of Zeta Phi Eta is something I would not change. I know each of them will bring something special to this organization and I look forward to seeing how Zeta grows with them as they #GrowWithZeta.
